The House Parents should point out that the House will have to live with any choices made, so some thought and planning and a consensus should be behind any choices. House names and themes should be enduring -- not something popular this year. We could go to mythology or Greek or latin for some background here, but should definitely stay away from anything proclaiming a philosophy or proscribed outlook. We should uphold sepeartion of church or particular philosophical outlook and House.
More: How about place names? How about Oxford House, Cambridge House, London House? U.S. places don't sound as interesting. Open this to student debate?
My vote is to let the kids be wildly creative with suggesting names; I'm not sure that they have to fall within a category. The faculty screening will ensure the propriety of final selections.
The leader would obviously have some input if the name seems inappropriate.
